Hi, my name is Vanessa, I self-identify as black, Christian, woman over 40,
but I do not represent all black Christian women over 40 and they do not
represent me. It happens to be something we have in common. Other than that,
I’ve been with my husband over 25 years, spend majority of my free time with
my family, who means the world to me. I’ve been with the Lincoln Electric
Company for 22 years.
Throughout my time with the company, I’ve worked with various people from all
walks of life and I love it. Diversity is a very big part of my life. I was
taught as a young girl that we are all different, but no one is better than
I was taught that prejudice is real and some are taught to be prejudiced.
It’s not your fault if you’re taught to be prejudiced but it is your fault
if you continue to practice prejudice after you know better.
Take time to learn more about that culture, that religion, that individual that appears so different from you working right next to you. Challenge yourself to find all the things you have in common with that individual, and respect all that you find different. Don’t just accept the individual and their differences, include them.
